Steph Curry is known around the world for doing something that once seemed almost impossible. He changed the game of basketball with his remarkable ability to shoot three-point shots from distances that few players would even consider. He has won NBA championships, earned MVP awards, broken scoring records, and become one of the most recognizable athletes on earth.

But Steph Curry has consistently said that basketball is not the most important part of his identity.

His faith in Jesus Christ comes first.

Curry has openly spoken about his relationship with God and the role his faith plays in his life. Before games, after victories, and even during difficult seasons, he has sought to point beyond himself to something greater. His familiar “4:30” and “I can do all things” references have reflected his connection to Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Yet Curry’s story is not simply a story about winning.

He has experienced injuries, criticism, disappointment, and seasons when people questioned whether his style of play could succeed at the highest level. He was considered too small and not strong enough by some scouts. Some doubted whether he could become an NBA star.

But what looked like limitations did not prevent God from using his abilities.

Curry worked. He practiced. He persevered. And he continued to trust God while developing the gifts he had been given.

That is an important lesson for all of us.

God does not promise that our lives will be easy simply because we believe in Him. Faith does not eliminate setbacks, pain, disappointment, or failure. Instead, faith gives us someone to trust when those things come.

Steph Curry’s greatest opportunity may not be the championships he has won. It may be the millions of people watching what he does with the platform God has given him.

Success can make a person proud. Fame can make a person believe the attention belongs to him. But Curry has repeatedly tried to direct attention toward his faith, family, and the responsibility that comes with influence.

His story reminds us that God can take an ordinary beginning, develop an ordinary person through extraordinary challenges, and accomplish extraordinary things.

You may not have Steph Curry’s talent. You may never stand before thousands of cheering fans. But you have gifts, experiences, relationships, and opportunities that God can use.

The question is not, “Am I as talented as Steph Curry?”

The better question is, “What has God placed in my hands—and am I willing to use it for Him?”

Sometimes God’s greatest stories are written not in arenas, but in ordinary lives surrendered to Him.
