Candace Cameron Bure, widely known for her childhood role as D.J. Tanner on the beloved sitcom Full House, has a powerful and transformative faith journey that she frequently refers to as her "God Story." While she grew up in the intense spotlight of Hollywood, her deepest personal transformation happened entirely away from the cameras, moving her from a casual, cultural believer to a deeply devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
Her spiritual journey initially began when she was 12 years old. During a period of significant marital strain and emotional difficulty between her parents, the family began attending a local church looking for hope and stability. It was during this specific time that Candace first heard the gospel message clearly and decided to accept Jesus as her personal Savior. However, as she transitioned into her late teens and early twenties, her faith remained largely on the periphery of her busy life. She married professional NHL hockey player Valeri Bure at age 20, quickly started a family, and intentionally stepped away from full-time acting for a period to raise her three young children.
The true, defining turning point in her faith occurred in her early twenties. As a young mother, Candace felt a profound, heavy responsibility to teach her children about God and raise them with solid spiritual values. However, she quickly realized she lacked the necessary spiritual depth and personal understanding to do so effectively.
Sensing her internal search for answers and guidance, her older brother, actor Kirk Cameron, sent her a book titled Revival's Golden Key by evangelist Ray Comfort.
Reading this book completely transformed Candace’s fundamental understanding of Christianity. For years, she had viewed herself as a "good person" simply because she didn't participate in typical Hollywood wild behavior or find herself in trouble. The book, however, thoroughly walked through the Ten Commandments, prompting her to look directly at God's absolute moral standards. For the first time, she recognized her own internal sinfulness and realized that no amount of good behavior could ever earn her salvation. She understood that she desperately needed the grace and forgiveness provided through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
This realization led to a profound spiritual renewal. Candace completely rededicated her life to Christ, transforming her into a passionate believer who wanted Jesus at the very center of everything. Today, Candace’s vibrant faith is the central driving force behind both her personal life and her career. She has become an outspoken Christian advocate, producing and starring in uplifting, faith-filled media projects designed to share God's love with the world.
