I want to tell you a story I never thought I’d share publicly. It’s not dramatic in the way some testimonies are. There’s no lightning bolt, no booming voice from heaven, no moment where the sky split open. It’s quieter than that. Simpler. But it changed everything about how I see myself — and how I see God.
For most of my life, I carried this belief deep inside me: I’m not enough. Not old enough. Not wise enough. Not spiritual enough. Not strong enough. Just… not enough. And I didn’t say that out loud. I didn’t even admit it to myself. But it was there, shaping the way I walked into rooms, the way I avoided opportunities, the way I quietly hoped God would use someone else — someone more qualified, more confident, more impressive.
I remember the first time I felt God nudging me to step into something bigger than myself. I brushed it off. I told myself I was imagining it. I told myself God wouldn’t call someone like me. I was too young. Too inexperienced. Too unsure. I didn’t have the background or the training or the spiritual résumé.
Honestly, I felt like a kid trying to wear a grown man’s jacket — drowning in something far too big for me. But the nudge didn’t go away. It kept showing up in conversations, in Scripture, in moments when I wasn’t even thinking about ministry or calling or purpose. It was like God was whispering, “I know who you are. And I know what I put inside you.”
I didn’t know how to respond to that. Part of me wanted to run toward it. Another part wanted to hide. And the biggest part of me wanted to hand the assignment to someone else — someone who looked the part. But God doesn’t call people who look the part. He calls people who need Him.
One day, I finally stopped arguing with God long enough to listen. I remember sitting alone, wrestling with this sense that God was asking me to step forward. I kept thinking, “Why me? Why now? Why this?” And the only answer that made any sense was the one I didn’t want to admit: because God saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. That realization shook me.
I had spent so much of my life measuring myself by what I lacked. But God wasn’t measuring me at all. He was inviting me. Inviting me to trust Him. Inviting me to step out. Inviting me to believe that He could do something through me — not because I was qualified, but because He was. So, I said yes. Not a bold yes. Not a confident yes. More like a trembling, whispered, “Okay, Lord… if You really want me, I’ll go.” And that was enough.
The first time I stepped into what God was calling me to do, I was terrified. My voice shook. My hands trembled. I felt like everyone could see right through me — like they could tell I didn’t belong, like they were waiting for me to fail. But something happened in that moment that I didn’t expect. God showed up. Not in a dramatic way. Not in a way that made the fear disappear instantly. But in a steady, quiet way — like a hand on my shoulder, like a whisper in my spirit saying, “I’m here. Keep going.” And I did.
I found myself speaking words I didn’t know I had. I found myself encouraging people older than me, people who had walked through things I’d never experienced. I found myself stepping into moments that felt too big for me — and yet, somehow, God kept filling the space. Every time I felt like I was about to fall apart, God steadied me. Every time I felt like I didn’t have the words, God gave them. Every time I felt like I was too small, God reminded me that He wasn’t. And slowly, something began to change inside me.
I stopped seeing myself as “just a kid.” I stopped seeing myself as unqualified. I stopped seeing myself as someone God might use someday, once I had more experience or more confidence or more years behind me. I started seeing myself the way God saw me — chosen, called, equipped, and empowered. Not because of anything I had done. But because of everything He was doing.
I realized something that I wish I had understood years earlier: God loves using the unlikely. He loves using the ones the world overlooks. He loves using the ones who feel too young, too weak, too inexperienced, too ordinary. Because when God uses someone like that — someone like me — there’s no question who gets the glory. And maybe that’s the point.
Maybe God chooses kids because kids don’t pretend to be the hero. Maybe He chooses the inexperienced because they know they can’t do it alone. Maybe He chooses the unqualified because they’re the ones who cling to Him the tightest. Looking back, I can see it clearly now. God wasn’t asking me to be impressive. He was asking me to be available.
And that’s what I want to say to you today. If you feel too young… If you feel too inexperienced… If you feel too unprepared… If you feel like you don’t have what it takes… You’re exactly the kind of person God loves to use. Don’t wait until you feel ready. You may never feel ready. Don’t wait until you feel strong. God’s strength shows up best in weakness. Don’t wait until you feel qualified. God does His best work through ordinary people who simply say yes.
You might think you’re just a kid. But God sees a warrior. You might think you’re too inexperienced. But God sees someone He can shape. You might think you’re not enough. But God sees everything He placed inside you — and He knows exactly what He can do with it. So, step forward. Even if your voice shakes. Even if your hands tremble. Even if your heart is pounding. Step forward anyway. Because God isn’t asking you to be the hero of the story. He’s asking you to trust the One who is. And when you do — when you take that first small, scared, uncertain step — you’ll discover what I discovered: God can use anyone. Even someone who feels like “just a kid.” Even someone who feels unqualified. Even someone who never imagined they could make a difference. God isn’t limited by your age, your experience, or your confidence. He’s only limited by your willingness.
So, say yes. Say yes even if you’re afraid. Say yes even if you don’t feel ready. Say yes even if you don’t understand how it’s all going to work. Because when you say yes to God, you’re stepping into a story far bigger than your own — a story written by the One who knows exactly who you are, exactly what you need, and exactly how He plans to use you.
And trust me… You may feel like you are not enough. But in God’s hands, you’re so much more.
